It’s Been A Fun 5 Years but Future Coverage on Hold

This hasn’t been an easy decision to come to but after nearly 1,300 posts and close to half a million visitors I just wanted to take a moment to write a thank you and going on an extended hiatus post.  It’s been fun but I don’t see myself writing again in the near future.  This site will always be here with the message board for the die hards to talk hockey (I’ll still be one of them) and others may start writing as well but it’ll be a big change from recent years.  I probably could’ve just pulled the plug and walked away but with the season ahead and expectations I wanted to make this post.

The days in the fall, winter and spring are great when started at a rink and even better when the day ends at one as well.  So why am I unplugging the keyboard?  I’ll always love hockey and being around the sport but the easiest explanation is that life has changed.  This move doesn’t have anything to do with money or access to the team, life is just different than it was when I started.  A site like this takes an incredible amount of time and energy and I just don’t have the time anymore.  The season ahead could be one of the more exciting ones with the NHL lockout but this just isn’t on my to do list.

I registered this domain name about five and a half years ago and it’s been a bigger success than I ever thought it’d be.  The whole reason behind the site was to offer additional media coverage of the Rochester Americans at a time when there was very little.  I’d like to think I did a great job of doing just that.  I could probably brag a bit more but that’s not my style.

Thanks to everyone from around the world for reading.  This never would have taken off had it not been for everyone reading what I had to say and report on.

I’d like to say thank you to the Rochester Americans staff under Curt Styres ownership for giving me press credentials at a time when it was almost unheard of for such access to a professional sports team.  Thanks as well to the Buffalo Sabres for continuing that and thanks as well to the Florida Panthers who granted me interviews as well at a time when very few NHL teams were recognizing bloggers.

Thanks also to everyone who has provided me with information over the years.  You know who you are and I’ve appreciated everything.

Can all of this change?  Of course.  Things could change in life and if they do I could be back to frequently writing but for now this is it.

You can follow me on Twitter @keithwozniak but you probably won’t find much hockey talk.

  1. I appreciate all the hard work and effort you put into your site and your coverage over the last few years. Making a die-hard hockey fan out of my wife last year was made a LOT easier thanks to your insightful news bulletins and your presence on Twitter.

While we’ll miss your sports analysis, we also wish you the very best in this next stage of your life. Thank you for all you’ve done.

  2. Dude,
Thank you. You done good, real good. Your writings will be terribly missed. All that “stuff” in your life should work out in due time. Stay cool and best of luck.
