Amerks Add a Leading ECHL Scorer

The Amerks made a somewhat surprising move on Wednesday afternoon by adding Justin Danforth to the roster calling him up from the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Danforth has 22G+22A in 38 games with the Cyclones (they’ve played 38 games). He also has a +20 rating with 5 power play goals and 1 short handed goal. He’s tied for second in scoring in the ECHL. He’s also seventh in the ECHL with 146 shots on net.

In five games at the end of the 2016/2017 season with the Amerks he scored two goals and also stood out skating hard and contributing on every shift. The late season tryout earned him an AHL contract with the Amerks and he was the first player signed by Jason Botterill.

At the end of the 2013/2014 he was named the Atlantic Hockey (AHA) rookie of the year playing for Sacred Heart University. In the four years at Sacred Heart University he finished seventh all time in program history with 124 points and fifth all time with 82 career assists.

Everything indicates that he’s the right kind of guy that has fit in perfectly with the Cyclones roster and will now get the chance on the Amerks roster.

Still questions remain on where he’ll fit in the lineup. Was there a new injury? Someone out longer than expected? Could also be that it was just time to give him a look. Should get an update on Thursday morning.

We had recently asked Amerks GM Randy Sexton about Danforth and he had said they would give him a look when the opportunity presented itself. Here it is!
